Known affectionately in the States as ‘UFO squash’ because of their quirky flying-saucer shape.
Pick when no more than 5cm across, then steam whole and douse in olive oil and garlic.
They have a nutty flavour and melt-in-the-mouth texture.
They have a firmer bite than most courgettes with no hint of wateriness.
Harvest July-September. 20 seeds

Growing Tips

Sow in a propagator on a windowsill or one seed (on edge) per 7.5cm (3") pot at approximately 15-20°C (59-68°F) using a quality moist compost. Cover seeds with 2cm (¾") compost, germination 7-10 days. Grow on in a warm light position, planting out when frost risk has passed, 60cm (24") between plants and 150cm (5') between rows. Alternatively sow direct late May placing 2 seeds per station 60cm (24") in the row and 150cm (5') between rows. Thin to one plant per station. Sowing to Cropping: 8-10 weeks.
