Also known as celery lettuce, this awesome and unique veggie is common in parts of Asia, but rarely grown in North America. Botanically, it’s a lettuce (Lactuca sativa), and while the leaves are decent what you’re really after is the dense crispy stalk. Best picked after they begin to bolt, but before fully flowered. The skins are bitter, but peeled they’re juicy and mildly sweet. Amazing raw in salads, or sautéed in stir-fries. Grown and packaged by Annapolis Seeds.
