Vegetables for a Fall Harvest

Did you know that spring isn't the only time to plant seeds? As temperatures start to drop in late summer and early fall, there are plenty of vegetable that can be re-sown for an additional crop in the fall. Just remember, timing is everything! Bush Beans: 8-10 weeks before the first frost, direct sow in July to mid August
Favourite varieties: Mascotte (55 days), Provider (51 days), Slenderette (55 days), Valentino (53 days)

Beets: Direct sow from mid July to mid August
Favourite varieties: Early Wonder (53 days), Ruby Queen (55 days), Touchstone Gold (55 Days)

Broccoli: Start indoors from late June to early July, transplant out in late July
Favourite varieties: Broccoli Raab (42 days), Waltham No. 29 (70 days)

Brussels Sprouts: Start indoors in early April, transplant out in early June
Favourite variety: Long Island Improved (90-100 days)

Cabbage: Start indoors in mid to late June, transplant out in mid to late July

Carrots: Direct sow in July

Cauliflower: Start indoors in mid to late June, transplant out in mid to late July

Celery: Start indoors in mid April, transplant out in mid June

Greens (arugula, mache, mustard): Direct sow 6-8 weeks before the first frost, typically from July to September

Kale: Direct sow in June
